First things first, the Omnia 2 is a Windows Mobile phone, but it doesn't have a stylus. A less-than practical dongle will inevitably find its way into the box, but this will be an afterthought, as samsung clearly believe their enhanced version of 6.1 won't need a pointy stick to operate. One could argue that Windows Mobile 6.5 won't need one at all, hence leaving a slot out of the handset casing, but as not everyone will update the OS, Samsung have put their faith in the significantly reworked version 2 of TouchWiz.

Whereas before, it was only one layer down before Windows was revealed and the stylus came out, this time menus have been modified several layers deep, giving total finger control over the majority of everyday tasks. Widgets remain, but now there are four different home screens one which to place them, so you can have a screen for information, a screen for media playback and so on. By pressing the central key under the screen, a six-sided cube interface called 3D Media Gate appears, where you have shortcuts to the web, your photos, music and video. We've seen a similar approach by lg with the S-Class UI, and it appears to work just as well here.

The I8000 may not have the most revolutionary design, but it certainly isn't unattractive. It's a mere 12mm thick and weighs only 117 grams, which makes it one of the lightest and most compact in its class – compare it with the iPhone 3G for example and it's slimmer, shorter and lighter by 16 grams, despite its larger screen. The 5 megapixel camera lens is hidden behind a cover, and it should meet up to Samsung's usually excellent performance. All the basic adjustments are there, along with face and smile detection, autofocus, geo-tagging and a dual-LED flash for low light shots.

The beautifully sharp 3.7” AMOLED display is great for looking through your picture gallery, which has also been overhauled and now has a handy swipe zoom feature, and Samsung have even included software to turn the phone into a digital photo frame too! Video should also look superb and the phone supports DivX/XviD and H.263/H.264 out of the box. A 3.5mm jack plug connection for your own headphones is found along the top edge, while the music player software has been made more finger friendly. One final new feature is Samsung's Motion Gate, where a simple movement of the handset – such as flipping it over – will perform certain functions.

Summary of the Samsung I8000 Omnia II.

As a replacement to the Omnia i900, the I8000 is spot-on. Its behind the scenes features have been improved – a faster processor, HSUPA as well as HSDPA and more storage – but more importantly, Windows Mobile has been tweaked to such an extent that in some situations, you won't believe you're using it at all! The TouchWiz UI is excellent, Opera Mini has been included to take advantage of the fast Internet, it has Wi-Fi, GPS and great audio and video. It may be up against some stiff competition, but the I8000 looks like it has got what it takes to succeed!

Recently Samsung released their latest touchscreen lineup, which included the Samsung Omnia II, or the 18000. The 18000 might look quite similar to the Samsung which was released at the same time, but don't get confused: the 18000 is a full-fledged smartphone, whereas the Jet is not. The all new Omnia II is full of all kinds of high-end smartphone technology that hardcore cell phone enthusiasts crave; the Windows Mobile 6.1 powered Omnia features wireless connectivity from all areas including WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, 3G data connectivity and some integrated GPS hardware. This handset also feature's Samsung's TouchWiz 2.0 user interface for cool 3D effects, multi-tasking convenience and resistive touch for faster, more accurate touch response.

Some additional features include:150 MB internal memory with a microSD card slot Qualcomm processory, 3G support, miniUSB, DivX/XViD support, cubical central button, and a 1500mAh battery. In addition to the announced yesterday, Samsung also updated its Omnia line of touchscreens, with the Omnia Pro B7610 and B7230, Omnia Lite B7300 and Omnia 2 18000 being rolled out of its Korean HQ.

The Omnia 2 18000 is the flagship model of the lot, boasting a 3.7-inch WVGA touchscreen, 5.0-megapixel camera with auto focus and dual LED flash, video recording and playback, A-GPS and 16GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot for expanding up to 32GB.

Also running on Windows Mobile 6.1, the Omnia Pro B7610 has a 3.5-inch WVGA AMOLED touchscreen, slide-out qwerty keyboard, 5.0-megapixel camera with auto focus, and an internal storage capacity of 1GB. Although not exactly the best kept secret (we first caught wind), Samsung's Verizon-bound Omnia II / I8000 is now one hundred percent official, along with for the Omnia Pro B760 (Louvre) slider, Omnia Pro B7320 candybar, and the Specs for the Omnia II are just a little different than what we previously heard: 3.7-inch AMOLED resistive touchscreen with WVGA (480 x 800) resolution, 7.2Mbps HSPA (or EV-DO Rev. A for Verizon's version), 5 megapixel camera, 720 x 480 at 30fps video recording, 2GB to 16GB internal storage with microSD expansion slot, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi, AGPS, and TouchWiz 2.0 UI. As for the Lite, we're looking at HSDPA, WiFi, 3 megapixel camera, AGPS, and just as the name suggests, a good likelihood it'll be overshadowed by its more feature-rich brother.

ust like its predecessor from last year, the Samsung Omnia ll 18000 is a Windows Mobile phone akin to the original Omnia. The Omnia ll's display is quite large at 3.7" 480 x 800 pixels. It can also boast of a 5 megapixel camera, GPS, WiFi and 3.5 support. One of the cool features of the Omnia ll is its "resistive touch" to improve accuracy in its usage.

Here Samsung has incorporated its AMOLED technology to give consumers control of how touch sensitive they want their screen to be. Web browsing is made easier by its WVGA resolution. The@ pairing of this with the Omnia ll's Opera web browser, will probably put this high end mobile phone in the top echelon of the portable web device market.

Compared to the Pixon 12, the camera on the back may not seem too impressive, but it's hard to argue with 720 x480 pixels at 30 frames second. The camera also has autofocus, dual LED flash, and even smiles and face detection, with geo tagging as well. The TouchWiz 2.0 interface by Samsung has enhanced the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional that comes with it. This will no doubt make for easier@ use. It also gives consistency to the feel and appearance between the higher Samsung models.

The Omnia ll 18000 provides the option of enjoying music through a stereo Bluetooth headset, or the 3.5mm socket for audio. It recognizes and plays back most media types that are available and commonly used. It comes with an FM radio and an internal memory that varies among the models. 2GB, 8GB and 16GB are there depending on the user's need for memory.

Those who desire more can expand it to 32GB using the right microSD card. The Omnia ll can do more with it's built@ in GPS because it's a Windows Mobile Device. A good amount of choices are offered for other systems pertaining to satellite navigation.

The Omnia ll 18000 supports 3.5G data. When using HSUPA the maximum upload speeds are 5.76 Mbps. When downloading, using HSDPA, the maximum speed for downloads is 7.2 Mbps. Through Bluetooth 2.0 or USB 2.0, local connectivity is available and WiFi can be used too.

According to Samsung, the big 1500 mAh battery can supply 10 hours of talktime, with 3G and 18 days of standby time. That is pretty rare for a 3G device. It appears Samsung pulled@ no punches when crafting this impressive mobile phone. It will most likely be a hot commodity among consumers of varying occupations. Though not as glitzy to look at as the iPhone, the Omnia ll 18000 measures at 118 X 60 X 12 mm. The two are nearly the same size.

The Omnia ll has the black slab look that is popular among touch screen phone designs today. It is a worthy alternative to the iPhone 3G S, and the Omnia has it beat when it comes to its larger and more sharpened display screen. There is currently no information on the availability@ or price. Observers expect the Omnia ll 1800 to go for around 600 when it comes out. .

The battery is pretty huge. And with such high graphics and so much of exploring all day long, besides the other activities, this phone somehow manages to keep up the battery up for long durations. After the very first charging, i used it for good 60 hours before the next charge. That’s 2 and a half days. It’s pretty pretty good. For the specs, it has a 1500 mAh battery.

The camera is super cool. I haven’t experienced such a camera in any cell phone that i have owned previously. It has 5 megapixel auto focus camera and it has a dual LED flash which is really strong. The best features are the Geo-tagging, face detection, smile detection, image stabilization, super Wide Dynamic Range (WDR), D1(720×480) video recording at 30fps and QVGA @120fps.
